Diagnosis. Blastobasis is similar to Hypatopa Walsingham, 1907 in the male genitalia, but it can be separated from the latter by the male antenna with a notch in the first flagellomere, the gnathos with one or two denticles medially on the posterior margin, and the proximal flange not bulged in the male genitalia. In Hypatopa the first flagellomere of the antenna is not notched in male, the gnathos is smooth or notched medially on the posterior margin, and the proximal flange is bulged.

Notes. The ten species from Mainland China are similar to the type species B. phycidella (Zeller, 1839) in hindwing venation with M 2 and M 3 coincident ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 2−3 ), while the two veins are stalked in the most species from the Nearctic and Neotropical regions.
