Type: — BRAZIL. Minas Gerais: Camanducaia, Distr. Monte Verde, estrada para Pedra Partida , 02 July 2002, A.S. Flores 1036 & R. Schütz - Rodrigues (holotype: UEC!; isotypes: F!, HBG!, MO!) .
Shrub or subshrub, 1.5–2 m high; branches puberulous to finely pubescent; internodal stem wings absent. Leaves 3– to 4– or 5-foliolate, digitate, petioles 2.5–7.5 cm long; leaflets usually rhombic or narrowly elliptic, 3–5.8(–7.4) × 1–1.5(–2.5) cm, discolorous, puberulous above, glabrous beneath; stipules 1–1.5 mm long, linear. Inflorescence a raceme, 7–15 cm long, terminal or rarely opposite to a leaf; peduncles 1.5–2.5 cm long. Flowers 8–25(35), pedicels 7–9 mm long; bracts 2–4 mm long, subulate, persistent; bracteoles 1–2 mm long, subulate, persistent; calyx 7–10 mm long, lobes twice as long as the tube, finely pubescent or glabrescent; corolla yellow; the standard petal 1.2–1.8 × 1.1– 1.7 cm; wing petals 1.3–1.8 cm long; keel petals 1.1–1.6 cm long, glabrate or ciliate on the upper margin, untwisted; ovary 4–5 mm long, stipitate; style curved. Legumes 3.2–4.3 × 1.1–1.4 cm, broadly oblong or obovoid, puberulous or glabrous, black at maturity, ca. 20-seeded; seeds 6–7 × 5–6 mm, seed coat black.
Distribution and Ecology: —Found in Southeastern Brazil, in Rio de Janeiro, Espírito Santo, and Minas Gerais. Crotalaria miottoae grows in campo rupestre vegetation, along the margins of wet forest and in montane forests at elevations of 1000–1900 m.
