Lithargyrus sp.

( Figs 22–27 View FIGURES 22–27 )

Remarks. Lithargyrus sp. differs from L. melzeri Martins & Monné, 1974 ( Figs 28–30 View FIGURES 28–30 ) only by the centrobasal crest of elytra without isolated small tubercles without thick dark setae, with moderately abundant, short, bristly dark setae. In L. melzeri , the centrobasal crest of the elytra has isolated small tubercles, each with thick dark seta, lacking abundant short setae. However, since the specimen is proportionally smaller than those from southern Brazil that we examined, it is unclear whether it represents a different species, as the difference may be simply due to the size or individual variation.

Based on the original description of L. guadeloupensis (Villiers, 1980) and a few photographs available to us, we could not identify any difference between this species and L. melzeri .

We have chosen to include these notes and photographs of a female from Mexico to facilitate future comparisons by researchers who may study the genus after obtaining a larger series of specimens.
