Redescription. Male: Length, 23–35 mm. Form moderate sized to robust, integument above, shining, glabrate; head, antennae, and dorsal median vitta of prothorax dark castaneous to black; scutellum black; elytra metallic greenish or dark blue, very polished; lateral sides of pronotum, metasternum and metepisternum yellowish-reddish; legs all black or femora yellowish except for base and apex, tibiae and tarsi darker; clypeus, prosternum, mesosternum and abdomen yellowish-red to blackish. Head with palpi short, apical segments of labial and maxillary palpi subtruncate at apices, impressed dorsally; antennae 1.75–2.3 time as long as body, scape conical, sparsely, finely punctate, dorsum impressed over basal 2/3–¾, sides of impression carinate, segments laterally carinate from apex of 3rd–11th, 3rd segment longer than 1st, 4th shorter than 3rd and longer than 1st, each segment from 5th–7th longer than 3rd, segments from 8th–10th subequal to 3rd or longer, 11th longest. Pronotum on each side with small tubercles slightly behind middle, sides of apical ½ either rounded or with very obtuse tubercle, disc with sides of apical 2/3 densely, confluently punctate, at middle from apex to base nitid with urceolate (pitcher or urn shaped), sparsely, shallowly punctate area; pubescence sparse, pale, long, erect around lateral tubercles and near base; prosternum narrow, each side above coxae with transverse, deeply punctate area; proepisternum densely, confluently punctate. Elytra 2.4 times as long as broad, glabrate; punctures very fine, nearly obsolete, apices obliquely subtruncate or rounded, exterior angle obtusely dentate. Legs with hind femora not extending beyond body. Abdomen with 5th sternite subtruncate at apex, shallowly emarginate medially.

Female: Length, 25–35 mm. Form robust. Integument similar to male. Antennae extending about 1–2 segments beyond elytra, 3rd segment longer than 1st, 4th shorter than 3rd, segments from 5th–8th sub-equal to 3rd, segments from 9th–10th successively shorter than 8th, 11th appendiculate, subequal to or longer than 3rd. Pronotum on each side with large tubercles at middle, another obtuse tubercle on sides of apical ½; disc glabrous, nitid, shallowly, separately punctate, apical and basal margins shallowly impressed; pubescence sparse, pale, long, erect around lateral tubercles and near base; prosternum finely, sparsely punctate above coxae; proepisternum sparsely punctate. Hind femora not extending beyond body. Abdomen with 5th sternite truncate to broadly rounded at apex.

Distribution. Panama.

Notes: Callistochroma lampros can be distinguished by the yellow-reddish pronotum, proepisternum, metasternum and metepisternum. The prosternum is also yellow-reddish but occasionally partially black to completely black in some examples. The pronotal disc usually has a dark median vitta, although in some examples this band is absent. There are some C. lampros males with a dark pronotum resembling C. rutilans (Bates) ; however, the metepisternum and metasternum are yellow-reddish in these examples. All C. rutilans males examined, so far, have a darker, more infuscated metepisterna. There appears to be two forms of C. lampros , higher elevation specimens, which are generally larger and darker in coloration, and another form in the lower elevations near the Canal Zone, which are smaller and lighter in color. The femora are either all black or yellow-reddish medially. Also, the abdominal segments are either all black or yellow-reddish. Other physical features aside from the color differences between C. lampros and C. rutilans were not apparent from superficial examination.
