Sarcophaga impatiens Walker, 1849 

Morphological characters. Gena and occiput with setulae only yellow/white. Prescutellar acrostichal setae present. Apical scutellar setae present in males, but either absent or present in females. Proepisternum uniformly setulose, with setulae only yellow/white. Males with long setulae on the hind tibia. 1 st and 2 nd abdominal sternites with setulae only yellow/white. In males, median patch of dense setae present at the base of the 4 th abdominal sternite. Body length 10–15 mm.

Geographical distribution. Australia (Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, Northern Territory, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria, Western Australia)—AUSTRALASIAN/OCEANIAN.

Biology. Sarcophaga impatiens  has been bred from rotten meat and sheep's liver ( Johnston & Tiegs 1921) and collected at decayed-carrion baits by KAM. Larval development of S. impatiens  was investigated by Roberts (1976). This species has also been recorded by JFW in forensic cases in Australia.

Taxonomy. All three larval instars were described by Cantrell (1981; referred to as Tricholioproctia impatiens  ). DNAAbout DNA barcode sequences of S. impatiens  have been deposited in both GenBank and BOLD.
