Strains: —CHAB732 (KM386854) from Xinghu pond in Wuhan city, Hubei province; CHAB2916 (KM386853), from Lake Erhai in Dali city, Yunnan province.
Habitat:— Freshwater, planktonic or epiplanktic.
Description: —Trichomes usually in fine, thin, indefinite, expanded, and prostrate colonies, sometimes solitary. Macroscopically, the cultures are dark red, brownish red, brown or blue green ( Fig. 1B View FIGURE 1 ). Trichomes violet, brown, brownish yellow, brownish grey or blue green, straight or slightly curved and entangled, without sheath, few-celled, deeply constricted at the thickened cross walls with bubble-shaped gap. Cells cylindrical, 1.2‒4.4 μm long and 0.8‒2.3 μm wide, 1.1‒4.1 L/W ( Table 1). Cell content homogeneous. Thylakoids with 8 parallel layers ( Fig. 2B, C View FIGURE 2 ). Apical cells flat-round, with one or two aerotopes in a bulb.
