Description. See d’Orbigny (1826, p. 307, pl. 17, figs 11–13) and Parker (2009, Parker, p. 83, fig. 59a–g).
Remarks. This distinctive species is characterised by its short, narrow chambers that span the length of the test and thin towards the middle. Its apertural face bears numerous rows of openings which correspond with auxiliary chamberlets ( Fig. 14 View FIGURE 14 :5–10).
Alveolinella quoyi ( d’Orbigny 1826) View in CoL is a reef taxon that is common to the Indo-Pacific region and was originally collected from Papua New Guinea ( d'Orbigny 1826). This taxon was collected by Brady (1884) from the Admiralty Islands on the Challenger Expedition and it has also been recorded on several occasions from the Great Barrier Reef ( Collins 1958; Baccaert 1987; Lobegeier 1995; 2001; Narayan & Pandolfi 2010). On the Great Barrier Reef, Lobegeier (1995) collected specimens from the moats of Low Isles, whereas Collins (1958) located specimens down to depths of 51 m and juveniles in even deeper waters down to 380 m, but never in shallow, sandy facies. Brady (1884) only noted A. quoyi View in CoL at depths of 30– 46 m . Parker (2009) reported specimens from Ningaloo Reef, Western Australia and Loeblich & Tappan (1987; 1994) from the Sulu Archipelago , Philippines and Sahul Shelf. Debenay (2012) reported specimens as widely distributed throughout the southwestern lagoon of New Caledonia from depths between 0– 50 m .
Distribution within study area. Alveolinella quoyi appears to prefer deeper water environments and was not found in any shallow water environments such as reef flats. The presence of this taxon in the channel sample at a depth of 35 m makes up 4% of the total sample assemblage.
