Derivation of specific epithet. From the Latin “ festus ”, meaning joyful or festive; this is meant to convey the “festive” coloration of individuals of this species, compared to others in the genus, and mycterids generally.

Diagnosis. This species is one of the most distinctive in the genus; it is diagnosed on its broadly ovate body form and the distinct, dorsally tri-colored body (head and pronotum blue, elytra red with apices blue-purple).

Description. Measurements (mm, N=14): HL = 0.92–1.12; PL = 0.80–1.08; EL = 2.80–3.84; GHW = 1.04– 1.24; GPW = 1.28–1.76; GEW = 2.16–2.72; TL = 4.60–5.96. Ratios: EL/GEW = 1.28–1.50; GPW/PL = 1.52–1.73; TL/GEW = 2.02–2.33; GPW/GHW = 1.23–1.43. With characters of Thisiomorphus , and the following:

Body broadly ovate (TL/GEW 2.17), elytral margins distinctly arcuate.

Color. Antennae uniformly testaceous to light rufous; maxillary palpi rufous, with distal palpomere piceous; head dorsally (except labrum) and ventrally dark, with metallic green-blue lustre; pronotum same color as head; elytra distinctly bicolored: anterior ¾ rufotestaceous (same color as antennae), posterior ¼ dark metallic purple; scutellum dark metallic blue-purple; femora piceous, tibiae slightly lighter, rufo-piceous, tarsi distinctly (in contrast to femora) lighter in color, rufous; venter dark piceous to near black, with slight metallic blue-purple sheen.

Antennae relatively elongate; antennomeres 3–7 filiform-subfiliform; antennomeres 8–10 moderately expanded distally.

Pronotum distinctly wider than long (GPW/PL 1.62), moderately wider than head (GPW/GHW 1.36); lateral margins moderately arcuate, greatest width about midlength; dorsal surface evenly convex, without depressions.

Male genitalia. Parameres distinctly shorter than basale, inner margins shallowly sinuate basally; basale with anterior margin straight to slightly curved, lateral margins of basale straight anteriorly, then slightly angulate past midlength.

Distribution. Specimens are known from COSTA RICA (Guanacaste, Heredia, Limón) and PANAMA (Bocas del Toro, Chiriquí, Colón, Panamá).
