Type species. Fernandezina pulchra Birabén, 1951 , by original designation.

Remarks. Species belonging to Fernandezina differ from other otiothopines by having an unexpanded femur I ( Figs 5 View FIGURE 5 b, 5f, 7b, 7f) and by the presence of a posteriorly extended abdominal scutum on males ( Figs 5 View FIGURE 5 e–g, 7e–g) ( Platnick 1975; Piacentini et al. 2013). There are currently eleven described species from Brazil, Argentina, Peru and Guyana ( Piacentini et al. 2013; Ott and Ott 2014; World Spider Catalog 2015).
