Description.

Measurements of holotype (in mm). Head width—0.63; width between anterior pronotal angles—0.93; pronotum maximum width—2.42; pronotum median length—1.02; pronotum maximum length—1.18; width across elytra—3.35; maximum length of elytron—2.75; sutural length of elytron—2.05.

Body widely oval, black and shiny, elytral sides extended upwards ( Fig. 1A–C View FIGURE 1 ).

Head ( Fig. 1C View FIGURE 1 ). Frons anteriorly concave, margined by a sharp keel and with delicate and sparse punctures separated by 2–4 times their diameter, diminishing in size anteriorly. Epistoma sharply angled with frons, slightly widened apically, with keeled margin.Labrum angled with epistoma, four times wider than long, with a basally arched keel along the apical margin. Mandibles with short bristles on outer sides. Scape with several long setae. Antennal club with short setation, most prominent in apical half. Thorax. Pronotal disc ( Fig. 1A View FIGURE 1 ) with irregular punctuation, rougher in the middle, more delicate laterally. Marginal pronotal stria complete, carinal laterally, narrower anteriorly. Posterior margin sharply arched, anterior angles pointing anteromedially and with a shallow, gently punctuated depression. Elytra ( Fig. 1A View FIGURE 1 ) with very faint microscopic wrinkles. Dorsal striae 1 and 2 complete. Stria 3 thin and very short, present only in the basal fifth. Stria 4 somewhat longer and joined to the sutural stria, which is entire. Dorsal stria 5 reaching almost to the elytral apex. Sutural stria and dorsal stria 5 are strongly impressed, appearing as two narrow grooves composed of a row of very closely spaced punctures. Interstrial intervals between dorsal stria 5 and sutural stria and between dorsal striae 4 and 5 slightly convex. Occasionally very faint and short apical nods of dorsal striae 3 and 4 are present. Subhumeral furrow with 7 tubercles. Lateral regions of elytra are raised, winglike. Prosternal lobe ( Fig. 1B View FIGURE 1 ) with a marginal stria reaching the transverse prosternal stria. Prosternal keel with two entire, parallel striae, united in regular arc at anterior end. Mesoventrite anteriorly strongly pointed, smooth. Meso-metaventral suture mildly arcuate, consisting of a row of conjoined homogeneous points. Metasternum with two large longitudinal depressions parallel to each other and entirely punctuated. Postmesocoxal stria almost straight and very short. Outer lateral stria faint, posteriorly strongly bent inwards and wider and more impressed. Inner lateral metasternal stria complete, near the metacoxa bent inward at right angle. Between the inner lateral stria and the punctuated depressions, runs a further stria bordered by an irregular series of punctures. Abdomen. First abdominal ventrite ( Fig. 1B View FIGURE 1 ) with a wide band of coarse punctures and short inwardly bent postmetacoxal striae. Propygidium ( Fig. 1E View FIGURE 1 ) with delicate, sparce punctuation in anterior part, posteriorly smooth. Pygidium ( Fig. 1F View FIGURE 1 ) with similar punctuation present mainly in the narrow basal region. Legs. Protibia with a straight protarsal groove, outer margin only with thick bristles, more delicate bristles also present on the inner margin. Meso- and metatibia with bristles along both inner and outer margins. Female terminalia ( Fig. 2A–B View FIGURE 2 ) robust, base of valvifer ( vlfb) very broad, distal part of valvifer ( vlf) thin, roughly sclerotized, apex of valvifer ( vlfa) broadened. Articular sclerite ( ars) wider than long, sub-rectangular. Gonocoxite ( gcx) robust, with conspicuous opening of gonocoxite cavity ( gcxo) and short, robust stylus ( st) apically, not exceeding gonocoxite border ( gcxb). Gonocoxite border with deep apical notch ( an).

Male unknown.

Diagnosis

This species is somewhat close to Coelocraera mariaeclarae Dégallier , from which it differs mainly in the fewer tubercles of the subhumeral groove, the presence of bristles on the mandibles, the incompleteness of the dorsal elytral striae 3 and 4.

Etymology

The specific name refers to the incomplete elytral striae in this species.
