CENTROPHORIDAE

Centrophorus uyato (Rafinesque, 1810) , is not considered valid by Compagno (1999). According to White et al. (2008) the original description of this species given by Rafinesque (1810) clearly depicts a Squalus rather than a Centrophorus species and Australian populations formerly ascribed to this name, are to be identified with C. zeehaani . Since the taxonomy of C. uyato outside Australia has not been adequately resolved, we prefer to exclude this taxon from our checklist until a more detailed morphological study on Mediterranean and eastern Atlantic samples will be realized.
