Generic diagnosis of adult female (adapted from Williams & Granara de Willink 1992): body normally broadly oval; anal lobes usually at least moderately developed, sometimes with an anal lobe bar. Antenna 9 segmented, occasionally with 8 or 7 segments. Legs well developed, denticle often present on claw; translucent pores absent from hind coxae, often present on tibia and occasionally on femur. Circulus often present, varying in shape from narrowly oval to broadly oval with anvil-like lateral projections, occasionally with 2 or 3 circuli present. Cerarii always present; sometimes dorsal cerarii present. Dorsal setae normally short and lanceolate, sometimes largest setae with trilocular pores associated with the setal collars. Ostioles present. Multilocular disc pores usually present on venter of abdomen, often present in rows across dorsum. Quinquelocular pores, when present, on venter only. Tubular ducts usually elongate, present on venter, sometimes present on dorsum.
