Homoneura (Homoneura) caoi Wang et Yang View in CoL , sp. nov.

( Figs. 12–22 View FIGURES 12 – 17 View FIGURES 18 – 22 )

Diagnosis. acr in 10 somewhat irregular rows. Apical spots on R2+3, R4+5 and M1 separated, extending to extreme vein tip; apical spot on R2+3 with basal edge beyond dm-cu, apical spot on R4+5 with basal edge about same level with that on M1; a spot constricted at middle on dm-cu; apex of subcostal cell hyaline. Male surstylus trifurcated, gonopod with 3 inward curved arc-shaped processes, aedeagus hook-shaped apically.

Description. MALE. Body length 7.6–7.8 mm, wing length 7.7–7.8 mm.

Head ( Fig. 13 View FIGURES 12 – 17 ) yellow. Frons about as long as wide and parallel-sided; ocellar triangle without spot; oc developed, longer than anterior or and slightly shorter than posterior or; face without spots; gena about 1/6 height of eye. Antenna yellow, 1st flagellomere 1.9 times as long as wide; arista dark brown except yellow brownish at base, with longest hairs about as long as the height of 1st flagellomere. Proboscis yellow, with yellowish hairs and slightly dark hairs; palpus yellow, with dark hairs.

Thorax ( Fig. 14 View FIGURES 12 – 17 ) yellow. Mesoscutum with 1 sa, 1 ia, 0+3 dc (anteriormost dc clearly behind transverse scutal suture), acr in 10 somewhat irregular rows, uniformly short hair-like; prsc about as long as anteriormost dc. Mesopleuron with 1 bristle on anepisternum and 2 bristles on katepisternum. Legs yellow. Fore femur with 4–5 pv and 7–8 pd, and ctenidium with 12–13 short bristles; fore tibia with 1 long preapical ad and 1 short apv. Mid femur with 5 a and 1 app; mid tibia with 1 preapical ad and 4 apv. Hind femur with a row of weak av (only 2–3 apical bristles distinct) and 1 preapical ad; hind tibia with 1 weak preapical ad and 1 short apv. Wing ( Fig. 15 View FIGURES 12 – 17 ) tinged yellowish, apical spots on R2+3, R4+5 and M1 separated, extending to extreme vein tip; apical spot on R2+3 with basal edge beyond dm-cu, apical spot on R4+5 with basal edge about same level with that on M1; a spot constricted at middle on dm-cu; apex of subcostal cell hyaline; costa with 2nd (between R1 and R2+3), 3rd (between R2+3 and R4+5) and 4th (between R4+5 and M1) sections in proportion of 3.9 mm: 1.1 mm: 0.7 mm; r-m before middle of cell dm; ultimate and penultimate sections of M 1 in proportion of 2.2mm: 2.0mm; ultimate section of CuA1 about 1/6.5 of penultimate. Halter yellow.

Abdomen ( Fig. 16 View FIGURES 12 – 17 ) yellow; tergites 2–5 with very narrow brownish posterior margin. Male genitalia ( Figs. 17– 22 View FIGURES 12 – 17 View FIGURES 18 – 22 ): Protandrium circular; surstylus trifurcated, with long hairs; hypandrium H-shaped; gonopod with 3 inward curved arc-shaped processes; aedeagus hook-shaped apically, with a narrow apical incision; aedeagal apodeme shorter than aedeagus.

Type material. Holotype male ( CAU), CHINA, Sichuan Province: Emei Mountain, Linggongli (N 29°32', E 103°19', 1270 m), 30. VI. 2010, Junchao Wang. Paratype: CHINA, Sichuan Province: 1 male ( CAU), same data as holotype.

Distribution. China (Sichuan).

Remarks. This species is somewhat similar to H. (H.) bispinalis from Zhejiang. But it can be separated from the latter by the surstylus trifurcated and the hypandrium H-shaped. In bispinalis , the surstylus is finger-like, and the hypandrium is nearly Y-shaped ( Yang, Hu and Zhu, 2001).

Etymology. The species is named after Dr. Chengquan Cao to express our sincere thanks for his help during the survey in 2010.
