Magulla symmetrica Bücherl 1950: 1 , figs 1–3 (three males, examined, misidentification); Bücherl 1957: 391, figs 36– 36a; Lucas & Bücherl 1973: 244 –245, figs 5–6.

Type material: Holotype male, Ilhabela, 23°46'S, 45°21'W (formerly Ilha de São Sebastião), São Paulo, Brazil, 19.IV.1949, H. Urban leg. ( IBSP 3367). Paratypes: 2 males, with same data as holotype ( IBSP 8908; 12949); male, Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro, 22°53'S, 43°13'W, Berla & Hebert leg. ( MNRJ 14015).

Additional material examined: BRAZIL. São Paulo: 1 male, Ilhabela, 23°46'S, 45°21'W, 19.IV.1949, H. Urban leg. ( IBSP 12950).

Etymology: For Wolfgang Bücherl, German scientist who worked at Laboratório de Artrópodes of Instituto Butantan, a pioneer of Brazilian arachnology.

Diagnosis: Males of M. buecherli n. sp. differ from those of M. obesa and M. brescoviti n. sp. by the well developed keels on the male palpal bulb, which bears a long and curved embolus ( Figs 2 K–M View FIGURE 2. A – O ).

Description: Male (Holotype). Color in ethanol: carapace reddish-brown ( Fig. 7K View FIGURE 7. A – M ), legs brown, abdomen ventrally light brown, dorsally brown and with urticating hairs patch with some white setae ( Fig. 7L View FIGURE 7. A – M ). Total length 12. Carapace 6.30 long, 5.90 wide. Clypeus 0.22. Diameter of AME 0.28, ALE 0.28, PLE 0.26, PME 0.22. Cheliceral furrow with 11 teeth, with 15–16 basal smaller teeth. Labium 0.75 long, 1.05 wide, with 17 cuspules. Each endite with ca. 105 cuspules. Sternum 2.50 long, 2.60 wide. Posterior sigilla twice size of anterior. Measurements: palp: femur 3.40, patella 2.00, tibia 2.50, cymbium 1.20, total 9.10. Legs: I: femur 5.80, patella 3.10, tibia 4.40, metatarsus 3.20, tarsus 2.15, total 18.65; II: 5.20, 2.90, 3.50, 3.10, 2.00, 16.70; III: 4.10, 2.30, 2.80, 3.50, 1.90, 14.60; IV: 5.40, 2.50, 4.20, 5.80, 2.50, 20.40. Spines: none on palp. Legs: I: metatarsus v1 ap; II: metatarsus v1 ap; III: metatarsus d0-0-1p, v3 ap; IV: metatarsus d0-0-1r, v0-0-0-1r-1r-1r-3ap. PLS: basal, median and apical segments 1.00, 0.60, 1.00 long, respectively. Palpal bulb piriform with long embolus (ca. 2/5 of bulb length), prolateral keels well-developed (ca. 1/2 of embolus apical length) ( Fig. 2K View FIGURE 2. A – O ).

Female: Unknown.

Variation: Males (n=5): total length 12.10–14.40. Carapace 6.30–7.40. Cuspules on labium 7–17, cuspules on endites 100–115.

Distribution: Known from Southern Brazil, in coastal regions of the state of São Paulo (Ilhabela) and lowlands of Rio de Janeiro (0–300m) ( Fig. 8 View FIGURE 8 ).

Remarks: Examination of the type material, a female of Magulla symmetrica Bücherl 1949 , led us to conclude that the species should be transferred to Plesiopelma (see below: P. insulare ). However, the male described by Bücherl 1950 belongs in fact to Magulla and is here described as M. buecherli n. sp.
