Type material: Holotype male, Centro de Pesquisa e Conservação da Natureza Pró-Mata, 29º27’– 29º27’S, 50º08’– 50º15’W, Potreiro Velho, São Francisco de Paula, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, 14.IV.2002, R. Ott leg., MCN 43290. Paratypes: with same data as holotype: 2 females, 02.II.2002 (MCN 43291; IBSP 14281); 2 males, 02.II.2002 (MCN 43392; MCTP 19544); 3 males, 14.IV.2002 ( MCTP 19545; IBSP 12855; MZSP 27811).

Etymology: For Antonio D. Brescovit, in honor of his valuable contributions to Brazilian arachnology.
Diagnosis: Males of M. brescoviti n. sp. differ from those of M. obesa and M. buecherli n. sp. by the palpal bulb having less developed keels and a ventral curvature in apical portion of embolus ( Fig. 2 F, H View FIGURE 2. A – O ).
Females of M. brescoviti n. sp. differ from those of M. obesa by the shorter seminal receptacle with dilated apical portion.
Description: Male (Holotype). Color in ethanol: carapace reddish-brown ( Fig. 7A View FIGURE 7. A – M ), legs brown. Abdomen dorsally brown and ventrally light brown, with dark brown urticating hair patch with some mixed white setae ( Fig. 7B View FIGURE 7. A – M ). Total length 13. Carapace 6.30 long, 6.00 wide. Clypeus 0.36. Diameter of AME 0.30, ALE 0.28, PLE 0.26, PME 0.18. Cheliceral furrow with 13 teeth, with 10–11 basal smaller teeth. Labium 0.70 long, 1.20 wide, with four cuspules. Each endite with ca. 70 cuspules. Sternum 2.75 long, 2.85 wide. Posterior sigilla twice size of anterior pair. Measurements: palp: femur 3.10, patella 2.00, tibia 2.50, cymbium 1.30, total 8.90. Legs: I: femur 5.10, patella 3.10, tibia 3.90, metatarsus 3.20, tarsus 2.00, total 17.30; II: 4.80, 2.80, 3.20, 2.90, 1.90, 15.60; III: 3.90, 2.30, 2.30, 3.00, 1.90, 11.10; IV: 5.00, 2.50, 3.50, 4.70, 2.30, 18.00. Spines: none on palp or legs I, II; III: metatarsus d0-1p-2, v3 ap; IV: metatarsus d1r-1r-1r-1r-1r-2, v0-0-0-1p-1p-4ap. PLS: basal, median and apical segments 1.00, 0.60, 1.00 long, respectively. Palpal bulb piriform with long embolus (ca. 2/3 of bulb length), bearing two weakly developed prolateral keels (ca. 1/3 of embolus apical length) ( Fig. 2F View FIGURE 2. A – O ).
Female: (Paratype MCN 43291). Color in ethanol: carapace light-brown ( Fig. 7D View FIGURE 7. A – M ), legs brown, abdomen dorsally brown, ventrally light-brown; urticating hair patch dark-brown with some white setae ( Fig. 7E View FIGURE 7. A – M ). Total length 13. Carapace 6.00 long, 5.90 wide. Clypeus 0.36. Diameter of AME 0.38, ALE 0.26, PLE 0.26, PME 0.22. Cheliceral furrow with 14 teeth, with 10–11 basal smaller teeth. Labium 0.80 long, 1.25 wide, with two cuspules. Endites with ca. 75 cuspules. Sternum 2.70 long, 2.75 wide. Posterior sigilla three times size of anterior pair. Measurements: palp: femur 3.40, patella 2.10, tibia 2.10, tarsus 1.90, total 9.50. Legs: I: femur 4.40, patella 2.90, tibia 2.70, metatarsus 1.90, tarsus 1.40, total 13.30; II: 3.70, 2.50, 2.10, 1.90, 1.30, 11.50; III: 3.15, 2.10, 1.80, 2.30, 1.40, 10.75; IV: 4.40, 2.30, 2.70, 3.70, 1.80, 14.90. Spines: palp and leg I without spines; II: metatarsus v1 ap; III: metatarsus d0-2-2, v0-1p-1r-3ap; IV: tibia d0-0-1r-0, metatarsus d1r-1r-1r-2- 1r-1r-1r-2, v0-1-1p-0-1r-5ap. Trichobothria: one filiform row on anterior 3/4 on metatarsi I and 2/3 on II–III (n=24, 15, 29, respectively), slightly disordered and strongly curved retrolateraly. Scopula of tarsi III–IV with very wide division for length, scopula restricted to both lateral sides. Scopula on metatarsi: I–II for apical 1/3, III–IV without scopula. PLS: basal, median and apical segments 0.90, 0.65, 1.00 long, respectively.
Variation: Males (n=7): total length 11.70–14.40. Carapace 5.80–7.20. Cuspules on labium 0–8, cuspules on endites 65–83.
Note: The shape of the urticating hair patch varies throughout the spider's life, being small and rounded in juveniles and triangular in adults.
Natural History: All specimens were collected at CPCN Pró-Mata, using 10 cm wide pitfall-traps. This site is located in “Serra Geral” (south Brazilian basaltic plateau) southeast border, at altitudes of 600–900 meters. The site is characterized mainly by Mixed Ombrophilous Forest (known as Brazilian Pine Forests or “Floresta de Araucária ”) with savannas at higher altitudes, and Dense Ombrophilous Forests (Atlantic Rainforest) at lower altitude slopes; the climate varies from humid to very humid, with temperatures below 15ºC during winter season ( Bertoletti & Teixeira 1995). Spiders were collected in three different forest habitats: Araucaria angustifolia (Bertol.) O. Kuntze primary forests; two secondary forests characterized mainly by Tibouchina sellowiana (Chan.) Cong. ; Pinus spp. silvicultures (see Baaske 2001). All sampled areas are located in Mixed Ombrophilous Forest domain ( Araucaria angustifolia ) at altitudes around 900 m. Specimens and ecological data were obtained during field work of R. Ott's doctoral thesis (Programa de Pós-Graduação em Biociências - Zoologia, Faculdade de Biociências, Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul - PUCRS).
Distribution: Known from Southern Brazil, state of Rio Grande do Sul ( Fig. 8 View FIGURE 8 ).
