CONTEXT AND CONTENT. Order Rodentia , family Cricetidae , subfamily Sigmodontinae , tribe Oryzomyini ( Burgin et al. 2020) . The current state of systematics of Oryzomyine rodents is in flux. According to Weksler et al. (2006), mid-20th-century checklists contained five to seven subgenera and between 60 and 120 nominal taxa in the genus Oryzomys , ranging from Patagonia to New Jersey. These authors (2006: table 1) erected 10 new genera, leaving only five species in the genus Oryzomys : antillarum Thomas, 1898; couesi Alston, 1877 ; dimidiatus Thomas, 1905; gorgasi Hershkovitz, 1971; and palustris Harlan, 1837 . Later, Burgin et al. (2020) recognized six species: albiventer Merriam, 1901; couesi Alston, 1877 ; dimidiatus Thomas, 1905; gorgasi

Hershkovitz, 1971; palustris Harlan, 1837 ; and texensis Allen, 1894 , plus two extinct island species, antillarum O. Thomas, 1898 and nelsoni Merriam, 1898. Weksler et al. (2006) did not include O. p. texensis Allen, 1894 , which is now O. texensis ( Hanson et al. 2010) .
