Genus Abernessia Arlé, 1947 View in CoL

Type species: Abernessia irmgardae Arlé, 1947 , by original designation.

Diagnosis. This genus can be distinguished from other genera by the following characters: presence of a clypeus that is flattened, plate-like, and glabrous, with the separation of clypeus from frons indistinct to absent; presence of large antennal scrobes; presence of a labrum that is partially exposed bearing apical setae; presence of a pronotum with distinct dorsal and vertical faces in both sexes and with an anteromedial projection of the dorsal face over the vertical face of various degrees in the females; presence of an anterior-median sulcus on the dorsal face of prono- tum; presence of a simple Cu1 vein in the fore wing that lacks any definite downward deflection at the base; presence of integumental teeth on the hind tibia that are longitudinal in orientation; absence of dorsal preapical spines or bristles on mid and hind femora set in pits; presence of spine-like setae of more or less uniform length that are not splayed at the apex of the metatibia; and presence of an anterior transverse groove on the second metasomal sternum of the female.

Remarks. We report six new records for three species of Abernessia ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 ), as determined below.
