Diagnosis. Wing length 2.0– 2.1 mm. Fronto-orbital plate yellowish, greyish to upper fronto-orbital seta; face greyish; pedicel slightly yellowish; first flagellomere conspicuously plumose; legs brown, with apex of femur and base of tibia yellow in the fore leg; calypter whitish with margin black, fringe black. Aedeagus (Fig. 34–36 in Monteiro & Esposito 2017): basiphallus subcircular, with two extensions apically; mesophallus enlarged basally; distiphallus forming two sclerotized tubules, slightly upcurved.

Host-plant. Lamiaceae sp.

Distribution. Brazil, Colombia, Guadeloupe, Guyana.

Comments. Calycomyza richardsi is morphologically similar to C. colombiana Sasakawa , and is differentiated from the latter by the conspicuously plumose first flagellomere. The genitalia of the two species are nearly identical, including the shape of the aedeagus, but they can be differentiated primarily by the number of spines on the epandrium and on the surstylus.
