Bulletin du Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle 5 (6): 307 (1899), non satis cognita. — Type: “ in monte Isalo ”, G . Grandidier s.n.; “ in valle fluminis Mandrary ”, Lamère s.n. (syn-, not found at P).

REMARKS

Both specimens seem to be lost, even as early as from the time of Denis (1921), who rejects this species: “Je n’ai pas vu cette espèce dont l’exsiccata a disparu” (I haven’t seen this species for which no exsiccata remains).

Ursch & Leandri (1954) consider the name to be a nomen dubium: “L’ E. isaloensis Drake doit être considérée comme espèce douteuse. En effet, il n’est pas possible de retrouver à l’herbier du Muséum les échantillons qui ont servi à la décrire; en outre, la description […] pourrait aussi laisser penser qu’elle à été établie sur des matériaux hétérogènes” ( E. isaloensis Drake must be considered as a dubious species. In fact, it hasn’t been possible to locate the samples which were used to describe it in the Muséum herbarium; moreover, the description […] could lead us to think that it was described on heterogeneous material) (see Euphorbia isaloensis Leandri ).
