Figures 11A‒F View FIGURE 11

Nops coccineus Simon, 1891: 572 View in CoL , pl. 42, fig. 18. Male and female syntypes from Saint Vincent (Hill–sides, about 500 feet), iv–v.1891, H. H. Smith (not examined, probably lost). Simon, 1893a: 324, figs 287–291. Chickering, 1967: 5, fig. 3. Lehtinen, 1986: 153, fig. 4. Bonnet, 1958: 3114 (emendation of N. coccinea ).

Nops coccinea: Banks, 1903: 340 . Petrunkevitch, 1911: 133. Roewer, 1942: 316.

Remarks. Searches for type specimens in the NHM (where they should supposedly be deposited) were unsuccessful: possibly these are lost. However, a female and three immature specimens assignable to this species were located in MNHN, together with type specimens of other species.

Additional material examined. SAINT VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES: Saint Vincent : not more data, 1♀ 3 immatures ( MNHN 10944 View Materials ) .

Diagnosis. Both sexes can easily be separated from members of all the other species by having three dark gray wide, irregular stripes on abdomen, one in both laterals, and one dorsal ( Fig. 11A‒D View FIGURE 11 ).

Description. Male: No specimens available. Only the description by Chickering (1967: 5‒6).

Female (MNHN 10944): Carapace, chelicerae, labium, legs, coxas, endites and sternum as in male, but a little darker. Abdomen with an irregular longitudinal dark gray stripe throughout the dorsum and two on both side laterals ( Fig. 11A, D View FIGURE 11 ). Total length 9.3. Carapace 5.2 long, 4.0 wide. Sternum 3.9 long, 3.1 wide. Leg measurements: I: 3.85; II: 3.75; III: 3.20; IV: 4.25. Posterior unpaired claws elongated and dorsally reflexed. PLS same size that PMS. External genital area with a weakly sclerotized anterior plate, strongly sclerotized lep and remarkable ess ( Fig. 11E View FIGURE 11 ).

Natural history. Simon (1891) described specimens collected under stones in shady places.

Distribution. Known from a few localities in Saint Vincent Island ( Fig. 11G View FIGURE 11 ).
