Material examined MMF 44304, 32º38’03.34’’ N; 16º56’04.05’’ W, 11 m, August 2013, on rock samples.
Remarks. Hippoporella maderensis was recently described by Souto et al. (2014) from rhodoliths collected near Funchal, Madeira. The present specimens, with the same characters as the type material, were not found on rhodoliths but growing over coralline algae upon rocks. Therefore, the species might have a preference for colonizing substrata formed by coralline algae.
