Cephalotettix chinantecus n. sp.

Diagnosis. differs from the only congeneric species, C. pilosus (Stål, 1878) , for the stouter body, absence of furcula in male, different male terminalia and internal genitalia.

Male description. Head dark green with face and genae yellowish green. Pronotum and tegmina brown. Abdomen brown becoming yellowish green on last abdominal segments. Limbs green, hind genicular lobes black and hind tibiae bluish with black basal tip ( Fig. 19 View FIGURES 19 ).

Pronotal disc rugulose with 3 sulci, the fore two interrupted in the middle, hind margin concave ( Figs. 19 View FIGURES 19 , 26 View FIGURES 26 – 33 ). Tegmina wide, ovate ( Fig. 19 View FIGURES 19 ). Furculae absent ( Fig. 40 View FIGURES 34 – 40 ). Supragenital plate wide, trigonal, with median groove on basal half ( Fig. 40 View FIGURES 34 – 40 ). Cerci apically spoon shaped ( Figs. 33 View FIGURES 26 – 33 , 40 View FIGURES 34 – 40 , 47 View FIGURES 41 – 47 ). Subgenital plate simply rounded ( Figs. 33 View FIGURES 26 – 33 , 40 View FIGURES 34 – 40 ). Phallic complex: epiphallus large, bridge almost straight, well sclerotized, anterior process as a thin subtriangular downwards directed tooth, highly prominent lophi ( Fig. 54 View FIGURES 48 – 54 ); dorsal valvae short, quite well sclerotized, subtriangular, with rounded globose apex; ventral valvae well sclerotized, rugose, shorter than dorsal, subtriangular, pointed ( Figs. 67–68 View FIGURES 55 – 68 ).

Female description. Similar to male but larger. Lateral lobes of pronotum with upper half black and lower half yellow ( Fig. 12). Supragenital plate long, trigonal. Cerci apically blunt.

Male measurements. Body length 23.5; pronotum length 3.8; prozona length 2.4; metazona length 1.3 and hind femur length 12.6.

Female measurements. Body length 24.6; pronotum length 3.8; prozona length 2.5; metazona length 1.3 and hind femur length 12.3.

Type material. Male Holotype: Mexico, Oaxaca, 1 km north of Ayotzintepec, 84 m (17°45’50’’ N; 96°04’44’’W), 24.IX.2008. legit R. Mariño-Pérez, B. Riveros-Lara, O. Padrón-Estrada and J. Villanueva; Mexico, Oaxaca, Carr. Tehuacán-Tuxtepec, km 92, 10 km before Esperanza, 1397 m (18°02’45’’ N; 96°42’50’’W), 23.IX.2008, Legit R. Mariño-Pérez, B. Riveros-Lara, O. Padrón-Estrada and J. Villanueva.

Type depository. male Holotype and female Allotype, CNIN.

Etymology. the specific name chinantecus refers to the ethnical group Chinanteco, inhabiting Oaxaca state.
