Type species: Odontella loricata Schäffer, 1897
Diagnosis: Ocelli 5 + 5, pigmented; cuticle coarsely granular; PAO oval with 3−5 lobes; Ant. IV dorsally with 5−6 well developed sensilla; apical bulb absent, ventral sensorial file often present ( loricata and minutissima species groups); eversible sac present between Ant. III and IV; head without chaeta a0; labium variable, with spine-like chaetae and spines on anterior border in some species ( minutissima species group); maxilla with fairly well de- veloped PIP; tibiotarsi with 15−18 chaetae in two rows; empodial appendage absent or reduced; dens with 4−7 dorsal chaetae and often with ventro-apical vesicle ( lobata species group); mucro uni- or bilobed, developed (ratio dens/mucro = 1.4−2.5 in loricata and minutissima species groups) or reduced (ratio dens/mucro = 2.8−6 in lobata species group); anal spines absent ( loricata and lobata species groups) or present (two spines in minutissima species group).
