Type genus. Chespirito new genus Ferreira, Keller and Branham .

Diagnosis. Chespiritoinae , and its sole genus, Chespirito new genus, have a unique combination of features not present in any other Lampyridae , helping to readily identify the new genus and subfamily among other members of the family by: the presence of strongly setose filiform antennae, with antennomere III much smaller than all other antennomeres ( Figs. 1B, 1C View Fig , 2B, 2C, 3 View Fig , 5A View Fig ), the pronotum medially constricted (not in Chespirito ballantyneae ; Figs. 1B, 1C View Fig , 5C View Fig ), with area adjacent to disc strongly punctate and with the presence of a strong developed longitudinal carina ( Fig. 1 View Fig ), the prosternum broad and wide, divided in the middle by a distinct suture forming two plates, with the posterior margin with a narrow inter-coxal process ( Figs. 1 View Fig and 5C View Fig ), the mesocoxae separated ( Fig. 2), the elytra smooth and dehiscent, weakly sclerotized ( Fig. 1 View Fig ), and the unique shape of the male genitalia ( Fig. 6A–C View Fig ).
