Scutellum black. Forewing black; clavus with proximal and distal irregular bluish gray markings; corium with small proximal irregular bluish gray markings and distal subcircular bluish gray mark; embolium with two irregular spots on inner portion, four larger lateral bluish gray markings, and external margin yellowish or orange; membrane with a pair of lateral bluish gray markings and several irregular spots distally. Takiya): 1 macropterous female [PARATYPE] (CZMA).

Distribution. Known from two water bodies on Sete Cidades National Park in northeastern Brazil ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 ).

Etymology. Named in honor of Dr. Allan P. M. Santos, one of the collectors of the specimens.

Comments. Ochterus perbosci (Guérin-Méneville, 1844) differs from O. santosi sp. nov. by the presence of sharp projections (rarely underdeveloped) on the pronotum and series of yellowish spots along the exterior margin of the hemelytra. Ochterus santosi sp. nov. is distinguished from O. parvus Schell, 1943 by the dark dorsum, body length greater than 3.30 mm, and apex of right paramere without projections. Ochterus santosi sp. nov. differs from O. americanus (Uhler, 1876) by the right paramere not extended beyond the apex of the genital capsule and body length less than 6.50 mm; from O. aeneifrons surinamensis Nieser, 1975 by the black scutellum without bluish gray spots; and finally from O. tenebrosus Nieser, 1975 by the strong gray spots along the dorsum and the distinct longitudinal carinae adjacent to the inner margin of the eyes.
