Cyrioctea cruz Platnick, 1986 View in CoL

( Figs. 4 View FIGURE 4 , 5 View FIGURE 5 d, 7)

Cyrioctea cruz Platnick, 1986: 6 View in CoL , fig. 12–13.

Type locality. CHILE: Coquimbo Region (IV), Elqui Province, coastal sand dune at an elevation of 5 m on a beach south of Cruz Grande.

Diagnosis. Among the American species of Cyrioctea , males of C. cruz are similar to those of C. calderoni in that they have the retrolateral tibial apophysis simple and distally displaced ( Figs. 4 View FIGURE 4 g, 7c); the RTA of C. spinifera is bifid, and in C. aschaensis is proximally displaced; see Platnick 1986 (Figs. 8, 9, 16, 17, 20, and 21). The central apophysis is massive, as in C. spinifera , but differs from the latter (and also from C. calderoni ) in that the median apophysis is simply hook-shaped, without additional tip. Additional differences from C. calderoni are the longer, distally pointed and flattened RTA, the widened conductor, and the lack of the basal spine of the palpal tibia. For the female, see Platnick (1986).

Male description (LEULS, Figs. 4 View FIGURE 4 , 7 View FIGURE 7 ). Total length 4.80. Carapace 2.70 long, 1.80 wide. Femur II 1.70 long. Eye sizes and interdistances: AME 0.078, ALE 0.10, PME 0.061, PLE 0.10; AME-AME 0.084, AME-ALE 0.022, PME-PME 0.079, PME-PLE 0.097, ALE-PLE 0.058. MOQ length 0.29, front width 0.22, back width 0.21. Carapace and chelicerae brown, legs brown slightly lighter; sternum labium, endites and ventral surfaces of coxae pale brown. Abdomen: dorsum with median grey stripe on the cardiac area connecting anteriorly with other lateral longitudinal bands of the same color, determining two arrow shaped paraxial whitish areas with a few irregular, small grey spots ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 a); sides with a more or less irregular grey band; ventrally, a nearly triangular mark spot flanked with two oblique whitish bands converging in front of the spinnerets, which are surrounded by dark pigment ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 c). Palp: Retrolateral tibial apophysis flattened, embolus relatively short, with its base touching the massive central apophysis; median apophysis simply hooked, conductor distally expanded, weakly sclerotized. Leg spination: femora: I d1-1 (very thin); II d1-1(very thin); III d0-1-1-0-1ap, dr0-1-1, dp0-1-1; IV d0-1-1-0-1, dr0-1-1; patellae: III d1-0-1, r1-1-1-1, p1-1-1; IV d1-1-0-1, r1, p1-1; tibiae: I vp1-0-0-1ap; II p1-0, vp1-1-1ap, vr1ap; III d 41-2-1, r0-1-1, p1-1-1, vp1-1-1; IV d1-1-1, r0-1-1, v2-1 r-2ap, p1-1-1; metatarsi: I v2-2 -2, II p1-1-0, v2-2 -2ap; III d2-2-2, p1-1-1ap, r1ap, v1-1 -2ap; IV dr1-0-1ap,, dp1-1-1ap, r1-1-1ap, v2-1 r-2ap, p1-1-1-1.
