Remarks

While Metaprotella haswelliana Mayerı 1882 was recorded from Port Jackson in the 1880s (see Mayer 1882; Haswell 1885)ı no specimens could be found during intensive field surveys from Jervis Bay and adjacent areas to the Solitary Islands along the coast of New South Wales that were conducted during the 1995/96 austral summer. There were also none found from the extensive crustacean collections of the Australian Museum ( Springthorpe and Lowry 1994; Takeuchi and Lowry 2007a). Thusı Metaprotella haswelliana was listed as a ‘ Species Presumed Extinct ’ in New South Wales under the Part 7A of the NSW Fisheries Management Act 1994 ( Fisheries Scientific Committee 2008).
