Petroneis marina (Ralfs in Pritchard) D.G. Mann in Round et al. (1990: 674) ( Fig. 19 View FIGURES 11–20 )
References: Brockmann 1950, pl. 3, fig. 17; Hustedt 1961–1966 fig. 1697 (both as Navicula marina Ralfs in Pritchard (1861: 903); Witkowski et al. 2000, p. 328, pl. 102, fig. 1.
Features: length 40–64 μm, width 20–28 μm, striae 11–13 in 10 μm.
Description:Valves elliptical-lanceolate with rounded apices.Raphe branches straight, ending centrally in expanded pores. Central area slightly transapically dilated. Monoseriate transapical striae strongly radiate and composed of rounded areolae.
Remarks: Distinguished from the similar P. granulata D.G. Mann (in Round et al. 1990: 674) by having regularly spaced striae.
Ecology and Distribution: Widespread marine and brackish water species. Previously reported from the Gulf ( Hendey 1970; Al-Handal 2009; Al-Yamani & Saburova 2011). Frequent in Basra corals
