Theopea sauteri . Paratypes: 1♀ (TARI), labeled: “Kankau (= Henchun, 恆春, in Pintung County) ( Formosa) / H. Sauteri VII. 1912 [p, w] / 7. IV. [p, w] // Paratype [h, red letters, pink label] // Theopea / sauteri / CHÛJÔ [h] / DET. M. CHUJO [p, w] // 2844 [p, w]”; 1♀ (SDEI): “Teraso (= Manchoutsun, 滿州村, in Pingtung County) II.09 [h, w] // Paratype [h, red letters, pink label] // Theopea / sauteri / CHÛJÔ [h] / DET. M. CHUJO [p, w]”. Both paratypes of Theopea sauteri are designated as paratypes of T. cheni sp. nov.

Description. Length 4.8–6.6 mm, width 2.0– 2.5 mm. General color ( Figs 4 View FIGURES 4 A–4C) metallic green; mouth parts including clypeus brown or dark brown; legs pale yellow; antennae dark brown. Vertex with reticulate microsculpture. Antennae filiform in males ( Fig. 5A View FIGURES 5 ), antennomeres III–X straight, length ratios of antennomeres I–XI 1.0: 0.2: 1.0: 1.3: 1.4: 1.3: 1.4: 1.4: 1.4: 1.4: 1.4. length to width ratios of antennomeres I–XI 3.0: 1.0: 3.6: 4.5: 4.6: 4.3: 4.6: 5.5: 5.9: 6.6: 6.8; shorter in females ( Fig. 5B View FIGURES 5 ), length ratios of antennomeres I–XI 1.0: 0.3: 0.7: 1.1: 1.0: 1.0: 1.0: 0.9: 0.9: 0.8: 1.1, length to width ratios of antennomeres I–XI 3.4: 1.8: 3.4: 4.8: 4.6: 4.4: 4.5: 4.4: 4.1: 3.8: 5.4. Pronotum transverse, 1.3x wider than long, disc with reticulate microsculpture, dense, coarse punctures, and one pair of lateral depressions; lateral margin basally narrowed; apical and basal margins subtruncate. Elytra elongate and parallel-sided, 1.8x longer than wide; disc with reticulate microsculpture, dense, coarse punctures arranged into longitudinal rows, and weak longitudinal ridges between longitudinal rows of punctures. Apical margin of abdominal ventrite V in females rounded but slightly depressed near medial area ( Fig. 5H View FIGURES 5 ). Tarsomeres I of front legs swollen in males ( Fig. 5I View FIGURES 5 ), subparallel in female ( Fig. 5J View FIGURES 5 ). Penis ( Figs 5 View FIGURES 5 C–5E) extremely slender, 12.9x longer than wide; apically narrowed, apex with medial, shallow, narrow notch; parallelsided; tectum extremely elongate from apical 1/10 to basal 1/3, apically narrowed; straight in lateral view, slightly curved near base; triangular sclerites short and broad; internal sac with elongate endophallic sclerite complex, 0.6x as long as penis, composed of two sclerites, basal piece much longer (1.4x) than apical piece, dorsal sclerite apex acute and straight in lateral view. Gonocoxae ( Fig. 5F View FIGURES 5 ) elongate, slightly broadened subapically, connected from basal 1/3 to apical 1/4; apices narrowly rounded, each gonocoxa with eight setae along outer margin from apex to apical 1/6; with one pair of short lateral processes at basal 2/5. Ventrite VIII ( Fig. 5G View FIGURES 5 ) longitudinal and well sclerotized; disc with several long setae at sides and near apical margin, and with dense, short setae along apical margin; spiculum extremely slender. Receptacle of spermatheca ( Fig. 5K View FIGURES 5 ) strongly swollen; pump slender and strongly curved; proximal spermathecal duct deeply inserted into receptacle, broad and short.

Diagnosis. Adults of Theopea cheni sp. nov. are similar to those of some specimens of T. sauteri from southern Taiwan based on the similar color pattern. They can be distinguished by the reduction of longitudinal ridges on the apical 1/3 of the elytra ( Figs 4C, 4D View FIGURES 4 ), straight antenna in males ( Fig. 5A View FIGURES 5 ) (curved antenna in males of T. sauteri ( Fig. 19A View FIGURES 19 )), and straight dorsal sclerite of endophallic sclerite complex ( Figs. 5C, 5D View FIGURES 5 ) (hook-like dorsal sclerite in T. sauteri ( Fig. 19D View FIGURES 19 ))

Etymology. This new species is dedicated to Jung-Chan Chen, a member of TCRT and the first to collect this new species.

Food plants. Floricolous species ( Fig. 1A View FIGURES 1 ). Adults were found on the flowers of Castanopsis indica and C. formosana (Fagaceae) , and Machilus zuihoensis (Lauraceae) .

Distribution. Central and South Taiwan (Nantou, Tainan, Kaohsiung, and Pingtung counties) below 1000 m ( Fig. 6A View FIGURES 6 ). Adults appear from January to June, but most of them (88%) are present during February and March.
