Odontaspis Agassiz, 1838: 86 View in CoL , 87. Type confirmed by ICZN, on Official List (Opinion 723). Type species: Carcharias ferox Risso, 1827 View in CoL , by monotypy, equals Squalus ferox Risso, 1810 View in CoL . This genus takes precedence over Carcharias Rafinesque, 1810a View in CoL when the two were considered synonyms, by special endorsement in Opinion 1469.3 (ICZN, 1987).
