Polemistus de Saussure View in CoL

Polemistus de Saussure, 1892: 565 View in CoL . Type species: Polemistus macilentus de Saussure, 1892 View in CoL , designated by Pate, 1937: 52. Asiatomistus Tsuneki, 1993: 38 View in CoL . Type species: Passaloecus barrabas Pagden, 1933 , by original designation.

Generic diagnosis. Mandible with one or two small teeth apically, female mandible obliquely subtruncate; labrum nearly triangular or rectangular, apex rounded or truncate; face with definite scapal basin; eyes converging below, inner margins crenate and bowed out toward middle of frons; occipital carina complete to midventral line of head; mesoscutum sometimes curving rather sharply down to pronotum; omaulus present; episternal sulcus extending from subalar fossa to anteroventral region of pleuron, hypersternaulus and scrobal sulcus usually present; female foretarsus without a rake; fore wing with two submarginal cells, each submarginal cell receiving a recurrent vein; gaster with short petiole; female pygidial plate absent ( Bohart & Menke 1976; Menke & Vincent 1983; Tsuneki 1992).

Polemistus and Passaloecus differ from other Pemphredonini by the following combination of characters: forewing with three discoidal cells, well developed episternal sulcus, horizontal hypersternaulus (sometimes lacking in Polemistus ) and absence of the female pygidial plate.

Polemistus differs from Passaloecus by the following combination of characters: inner orbits converging strongly below, omaulus present, midflagellar articles broader than long. In Passaloecus , inner orbits nearly parallel or at least not converging strongly below, omaulus rarely present, midflagellar articles longer than broad.
