Specimens examined. 18 females and five males, Kostanay Region , Kazakhstan, 53°15ʹN, 66°27ʹE, 19 October 2019, A.K. Issakova coll., from soil (in TSUMZ) GoogleMaps .
Remarks. Gaeolaelaps nolli was described from agricultural soil and grassland in Germany ( Karg, 1962) and is now recorded in Kazakhstan for the first time, from soil. The synonymy presented above reveals some confusion about the identity of this species as discussed by Joharchi & Negm (2020). This species is widespread in Europe and elsewhere but much of the information on this species has been published under the names Gaeolaelaps praesternalis or Hypoaspis (Gaeolaelaps) praesternalis . Chelebiev (1981, 1988a) has recorded G. praesternalis from Kazakhstan. This record could be a misidentification of G. nolli , but we have not had the opportunity to examine any specimens to confirm this identification. Our collected specimens agree very well with the description given by Evans & Till (1966) for H. praesternalis (misidentification of G. nolli ). The species is recognised by the 39 pairs of dorsal setae, sometimes reaching base of next posterior seta (22 pairs of podonotal setae and 17 pairs of opisthonotal setae), including two pairs of Zx setae between J and Z setae, seta j5 is shorter than distance between j5 and j6, and J2 is located directly posteriorly to J1 ( Fig. 56 View FIGURES 56–63 ), sternal setae shorter, each not reaching the base of the next seta ( Fig. 57 View FIGURES 56–63 ), lateral margins of epigynal shield not parallel-sided, widest area of the shield posterior to st5 level ( Fig. 57 View FIGURES 56–63 ), anal shield subtriangular, large, anus positioned posteriorly ( Fig. 57 View FIGURES 56–63 ), the length of the peritreme short, reaches to mid-level of coxa II ( Fig. 60 View FIGURES 56–63 ), tarsus IV with two elongate pd2–3 setae ( Fig. 59 View FIGURES 56–63 ), fixed digit of chelicera with an offset and subapical tooth (gabelzhan), followed by six variously sized teeth in female ( Fig. 61 View FIGURES 56–63 ), the spermatodactyl of male curved upward, with a large distal knob, and its free section is shorter than the movable digit ( Fig. 62 View FIGURES 56–63 ).
