Description of Arthrobacter nitrophenolicus BT 82

Cells are Gram-stain-positive, non-flagellated, and rod-shaped. Colonies are white colored after 3 days of incubation on R 2A at 25°C. In the BIOLOG GEN III test, positive for glycerol, D-aspartic acid, L-alanine, L-aspartic acid, L-glutamic acid, L-histidine, L-pyroglutamic acid, D-gluconic acid, mucic acid, tetrazolium violet, L-lactic acid, citric acid, α -keto-glutaric acid, D-malic acid, γ-amino-butyric acid, α -hydroxy-butyric acid, β -hydroxy-D, L-butyric acid, α -keto-butyric acid, and propionic acid; and weak positive for pH 6, 1% sodium lactate, fusidic acid, troleandomycin, lincomycin, glucuronamide, vancomycin, tetrazolium blue, L-malic acid, nalidixic acid, acetic acid, and aztreonam. In the API 20NE test, positive for esculin hydrolysis, β -galactosidase, D-glucose, L-arabinose, D-mannose, D-mannitol, N -acetyl-D-glucosamine, D-maltose, potassium gluconate, adipic acid, malic acid, trisodium citrate, and phenylacetic acid; weak positive for urease; but negative for reduction of nitrates (NO 3) to nitrite (NO 2 -), reduction of nitrates (NO 3) to nitrogen (N 2), indole production on tryptophan, glucose fermentation, arginine dihydrolase, gelatin hydrolysis, and capric acid. In the API 32GN test, positive for N -acetyl-glucosamine, inositol, D-saccharose (sucrose), D-maltose, suberic acid, L-alanine, D-mannitol, D-glucose, salicin, D-melibiose, L-arabinose, L-histidine, potassium 2-ketogluconate, L-proline, L-rhamnose, D-ribose, sodium malonate, sodium acetate, lactic acid, potassium 5-ketogluconate, glycogen, 3-hydroxybenzoic acid, L-serine, propionic acid, valeric acid, trisodium citrate, 3-hydroxybutyric acid, and 4-hydroxybenzoic acid; but negative for itaconic acid, D-fucose, D-sorbitol, and capric acid.
