Cyclocephala dalensi Ponchel, 2009

( Figs. 3A View FIGURE 3 ; 15F View FIGURE 15 ; 16F View FIGURE 16 17F View FIGURE 17 ; 18H View FIGURE 18 ; 19D View FIGURE 19 ; 24F View FIGURE 24 ; 29C–D View FIGURE 29 ; 40 View FIGURE 40 )

Diagnosis. In C. dalensi , C. kaszabi , and C. ligyrina , the surface of the pygidium has dense punctures (rarely sparse) ( Fig. 24F–H View FIGURE 24 ), but in C. rufa and C. arhuacana , the pygidium has sparse punctures ( Fig. 25A–B View FIGURE 25 ). Cyclocephala dalensi and C. kaszabi have on the external face of the metatibia 2 rows of setae, the second row crosses the external face ( Fig. 19D View FIGURE 19 ), whereas in C. ligyrina the second row does not cross the external face of the metatibia ( Fig. 19F View FIGURE 19 ).

Redescription. Male ( Fig. 3A View FIGURE 3 ). Length 20.0–23.0 mm; width 9.5–10.1 mm. Color dark reddish brown to black. Head: Surface of frons and clypeus with punctures moderately dense (rarely sparse), deep, moderately large except those on occiput and apex of clypeus that are smaller and slightly denser. Anterior clypeal angles broadly rounded, apex broadly truncate, weakly emarginate. Mandibles apically rounded, internal face with a groove; labium densely setose, paraglossa undeveloped, apex slightly notched; maxilla with galea developed, with 6 teeth. Interocular width equals 2.1 transverse eye diameters. Antenna with 10 antennomeres, club subequal in length to antennomeres 2–7. Pronotum: Surface with punctures as on frons. Base lacking marginal bead. Elytra: Surface with distinct rows of punctures, punctures (and those in intervals) ocellate, moderate to moderately large, moderately dense. Pygidium: Surface with dense punctures (rarely sparse), moderate in size, most with a minute, tawny seta in unworn specimens. In lateral view, surface regularly convex ( Fig. 24F View FIGURE 24 ). Legs: Protibia tridentate, with basal tooth small and directed “forward” and slightly removed from other ( Fig. 18H View FIGURE 18 ). Protarsus enlarged, tarsomeres 2–4 successively gradually larger; tarsomere 5 large, only weakly curved ( Fig. 17F View FIGURE 17 ), with large tooth at base; median claw large, strongly curved ( Fig. 16F View FIGURE 16 ), broadly split into a wide ramus and a slender ramus ( Fig. 15F View FIGURE 15 ); metatibia on external face with 2 rows of setae, the second row crosses the external face of the metatibia ( Fig. 19D View FIGURE 19 ). Genitalia: Parameres as in Fig. 29C–D View FIGURE 29 .

Female. Unknown.

Distribution. Cyclocephala dalensi was previously known from the type locality in Antecume-Pata, French Guiana (Pochel 2009) and four other localities in the same country ( Dupuis & Perrin 2020). The specimen listed below for Colombia constitutes a somewhat surprizing new country record.

Life history. Little is known about the species natural history, but adults are associated with inflorescences of Philodendron gloriosum André ( Araceae ).
