Type Material. Holotype. NEW ZEALAND: TARANAKI (TK): ♂ (wingless male), aedeagus dissected and mounted in balsam on a clear plastic card, “ NEW ZEALAND TK Pouakai Saddle 1220m Pouakai Ra 3 Dec 1975, J.S. Dugdale ”, “Litter 75/204”, “ N.Z. Arthropod Collection, NZAC Private Bag 92170 AUCKLAND New Zealand”, “ HOLOTYPE Stenosagola egmontensis Park and Carlton des. 2013” . Paratypes (n = 5: 2 males, 3 females). NEW ZEALAND: NELSON (TK): 2♂♂ 3♀♀ (1♂ 1♀, slide-mounted), same data as holotype ( NZAC) .
Etymology. This species is named after the type locality, Egmont National Park, Taranaki (TK).
Diagnosis. Specimens of S. egmontensis are similar in appearance to those of S. stewartensis but can be distinguished by the shape of the male genitalia ( Fig. 4c View Fig ) and the depression of the basodorsal margin of the male profemur ( Fig. 4g View Fig , arrow). Members of this species can be separated from those of S. gracilis , S. pseudogracilis , S. clarkei , S. ramsayi , S. domettensis , and S. eylesi by the dull dorsal surface of the head ( Figs. 1h–i View Fig ).
Description. Length 1.5–1.6 mm ( Fig. 1h–i View Fig ). Head: Wingless male head approximately 1.24 times, female 1.19 times longer than wide ( Fig. 4e View Fig ). Wingless male eye approximately 0.80 times, female 0.65 times as long as temple ( Fig. 4e View Fig ). Wingless male antennomere 3 subquadrate, 4–5 slightly longer than wide, 6–7 subquadrate. Female antennomere 3 subquadrate, 4 slightly longer than wide, 5–7 subquadrate. Thorax: Pronotum subquadrate, approximately 0.90 times longer than wide ( Fig. 4f View Fig ). Wingless male elytra approximately 1.59 times, female 1.45 times longer than pronotum. Wingless male meso- and metaventrites trapezoidal, approximately 1.41 times, female 1.30 times longer than pronotum. Basodorsal margin of male profemur concave ( Fig. 4g View Fig , arrow). Aedeagus: Left apical lobe of male genitalia acute, longer than right apical lobe, right apical lobe folded over left ( Fig. 4c View Fig ). Left paramere slightly longer than right, setae present anteriorly ( Fig. 4c View Fig ).
Distribution. Taranaki (TK), New Zealand ( Fig. 5 View Fig , black circle).
Habitat. Specimens of this species were collected by sifting leaf litter.
