Ochrotrichia constricta sp. nov.
Fig 4A–C View FIGURES 4 A – C
Description. Holotype. Adult male. Structure typical for Ochrotrichia spp. ( Flint 1972) except body length 1.8 mm (from tip of head to end of the folded wings). Length of each forewing 1.6 mm. General color uniform brown (in alcohol). Head without modification. Tibial spur formula: 1-3-4. Metascutellum subpentagonal. Abdomen without visible modifications.
Male genitalia. Sternum IX with anterior margin rounded ( Fig. 4A, 4C View FIGURES 4 A – C ); tergum IX very short and trapezoidal ( Fig. 4B View FIGURES 4 A – C ), with posterior margin slightly convex. Inferior appendages long; rectangular with apex truncate in lateral view ( Fig. 4C View FIGURES 4 A – C ); with long setae over all surface and spine-like setae on internal surface ( Fig. 4A View FIGURES 4 A – C ). Segment X tergum with basal portion oval, constricted mesally; basal portion with a sclerotized spine-like process on right side; apical portion of the tergum X hooked in dorsal view and directed ventrally in lateral view ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 4 A – C B-C). Phallus tubular and elongate; without processes; ejaculatory duct not protruding ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 4 A – C D).
Female and larva unknown.
Remarks. Ochrotrichia constricta sp. nov. is not placed in any species group, because it does not share the diagnostic features of any group. This new species is most similar to O. silva Bueno-Soria & Holzenthal, 1998 on the basis of the shape of the spine-like process on the right side of tergum X and its mesal constriction. However, O. constricta sp. nov. can be distinguished from this and other Ochrotrichia species by the absence of a second process at the basal area of tergum X and almost uniformly rectangular shape of the inferior appendages.
Etymology. This species is named in reference of the remarkable mesal constriction on tergum X.
