Eusarcus metapucrolia View in CoL nom. n., species inquirenda
Pucrolia armata Sørensen 1895: 4 View in CoL (types in MZT, not examined). Although Kury (2003a) mentioned the existence of a paratype in the SMF, such material could not be found in this institution upon our request.
Metapucrolia armata: Roewer 1913: 33 , fig. 10; 1923: 406 (rdesc), fig. 498; Mello-Leitão 1932: 195, fig. 105; Soares & Soares 1954b: 277 (cat); 1985: 12 (syst), figs. 13–17.
Metapucrolia armata was synonymized with E. argentinus by Soares & Soares (1985) under dubious circumstances: (i) they assumed M. armata shows variation in armature of ocularium, femur IV and male genitalia; (ii) they did not examine any type material. The redescription provided by Roewer (1913) is not precise enough to conclude whether it is a valid species or not. The only way to decide it, is to carefully examine the type material, with an emphasis on fine details of tubercles and spines on the dorsal scutum and of apophyses on trochanter IV; apical spines of femora (especially prolateral, retrolateral and proventral rows of tubercles) and male genitalia. A replacement name is proposed to avoid secondary homonymy with E. armatus Perty 1833 View in CoL .
