Apostenus are small liocranids differing from other Maghrebian genera by the presence of five pairs of ventral spines on Mt I. Eight palaearctic species are known: three from W estern Europe, one from Greece and four from the Canary Islands, recently described by Wunderlich (1987,1992). One afrotropical species is probably mi spl aced.
