Material examined: CNCR20394; number of specimens: 1; 2; CV station; collection date: 01/08/98.

Type locality: Off St. Vicente, Cape Verde Islands.

Distribution: This species has been reported from tropical Florida ( Thomas, 1993; LeCroy, 2000); Belize ( Thomas, 1993); eastward to Hawaii, Micronesia ( Barnard, 1970), Fiji Island ( Myers, 1985); Papua New Guinea ( Myers, 1995) and Madagascar ( Ledoyer, 1982).

Range extension: In the Gulf of Mexico, Gammaropsis atlantica has been recorded from tropical Florida ( Thomas, 1993; LeCroy, 2000) and on the Yucatan shelf at depths between 20 and 40 m ( Ortiz, 1979). The presence of this species at CV inlet, extends its geographic distribution along the western Gulf of Mexico coast.

Remarks: This species has a circumtropical distribution among coral rubble ( Myers, 1985), on sand/mud bottoms, associated with red algae at depths of 3 36 m ( Myers, 1995), and in shallow water as a component of the littoral epifauna ( Barnard, 1970). The salinity and temperature ranges measured at the site where this species was collected ranged from 19 to 27 %o and 28 to 29 °C, respectively.
