Description. Male. Body dark green with black tegmina. Head subconical, frons distinctly inclined; antenna relatively shorter, 1.2 times longer than length of head and pronotum combined; middle antennomeres 3.0–3.5 times longer than width; scape equally long as wide; lateral foveloae rectangular, four times longer than wide; vertical diameter of eye as long as or slightly longer than subocular groove; frontal ridge as wide as scape between bases of antennae, diverged toward clypeal suture; facial carinae distinct. Pronotum with prozona as long as metazona, median longitudinal carina bisected by principle transverse sulcus medially; lateral carinae gently incurved in prozona, diverged in metazona; anterior margin of pronotum straight, posterior margin obtusely angulate, slightly granulose posteriorly; lateral lobe of pronotum slightly deeper than pronotal length. Mesosternal interspace 1.2 times wider than long. Ventral thorax with numerous white hairs. Tegmina macropterous, surpassing hind knee, not reaching middle of hind tibia; anterior margin with small precostal bulge, tegminal apex widely round; costa and subcosta sinuated (S-shaped); greatest widths of costal area as wide as subcostal area, and radial area also same width near the origin of RS; medial area slightly wider than cubital area; bright stigma present on two thirds of joining veins composed of media and cubitus. Hind wings smoky. Abdomen with narrower tympanal opening four times longer than the width. Hind genicular lobes and knees blackish, hind tibiae yellowish red. Abdominal sides with black patches. Fore femur as long as pronotum. Inner side of hind femur with stridulatory pegs mean number more than 185. Epiproct triangular, as long as basal width, its lateral margins moderatly sinuated, its apex sharply pointed. Cercus short and thick, 2.2 times longer than basal width, with bluntly pointed apex. Subgenital plate shortly conical. Female. Body coloration dark brown, sometimes only on vertex, occiput and pronotal disk green dorsally. Vertical diameter of eye slightly shorter than subocular groove. Antennae as long as length of head and pronotum combined, mid antennomeres 2.5–3.0 times longer than wide. Tegmina shorter than abdominal apex, not reaching hind knee. Mesosternal interspace two times longer than wide.

Distribution. South Korea. Endemic to Jeju Island.

Remarks. Megaulacobothrus jejuensis sp. nov. is distinguished from South Korea’s mainland M. aethalinus by its smaller body dimensions. In addition, the male's greater number of stridulatory pegs on the hind femur; and the female's short tegmina are useful diagnostic features.
