‘ Clavatula ’ palatina Strausz, 1954 View in CoL species inquirenda
* Clavatula interrupta palatina nov. var. — Strausz 1954: 111, pl. 5, figs 102a–b.
Clavatula interrupta palatina Strausz, 1954 — Strausz 1966: 404, pl. 15, figs 9–10.
Type material. Holotype: Várpalota ( Hungary), SL: 33.1 mm, MD: 13.6 mm, illustrated in Strausz (1954, pl. 5, figs 102a–b). The specimen might have been deposited in the Geological and Geophysical Institute of Hungary (Budapest) but is not found in the inventory.
Discussion. No material was available to us. The illustrations in Strausz (1954, 1966) show a subadult, mediumsized, biconic shell with a prominent central concavity adjoined by two slightly narrower, bifid to trifid adsutural spiral cords with small, close-set beads. The last whorl has a rounded periphery, slowly contracting covered with prominent, granulose, convex spiral cords crossed by growth lines. It differs from other species of the ‘ Clavatula ’ interrupta group in its dense, delicate sculpture.
Paleoenvironment. Coastal, inner neritic.
Distribution in Central Paratethys. Badenian (middle Miocene): Pannonian Basin: Várpalota ( Hungary) ( Strausz 1954).
