Revised description. Shell small, solid, stout fusiform, with relatively short spire; apical angle ~36–43°. Protoconch not preserved. Teleoconch of nine whorls. Early teleoconch whorls flat-sided, with bipartite sculpture; narrow subsutural cord, suprasutural cord bearing drop-shaped, opisthocline beads. Later teleoconch whorls rapidly increasing in width, with poorly delimited, irregularly beaded subsutural collar and rounded tubercles on suprasutural cord, mid-whorl portion narrow, concave. Suture narrowly and weakly incised, weakly undulating. Last whorl ~65–70% of total height. Subsutural collar broad, bearing large, rounded tubercles. Subsutural ramp narrow, concave, delimited by tubercular shoulder cord, weakly convex below, moderately constricted at base. Siphonal fasciole poorly delimited, weakly rounded. Sculpture of three rows of coarse tubercles.Adapical cords on subsutural collar and at shoulder strongest, and peribasal cord weakest, two further poorly defined and faintly tubercular cords over base. Aperture moderately narrow, pyriform. Outer lip not thickened, smooth within. Anal sinus moderately wide, moderately deep, asymmetrically U-shaped, with apex just below collar. Siphonal canal moderately short, straight, shallowly notched at tip. Columella weakly excavated in upper third, straight below, smooth. Columellar and parietal callus thickened, sharply delimited, forming broad callus rim and narrow pseudumbilical chink.
Discussion. Although Hörnes (1854) provided precise illustrations and a clear description of Olegia doderleini , the understanding of this species was distorted by subsequent authors, who erroneously identified and illustrated specimens of O. rumana ( Simionescu & Barbu, 1940) or O. curta ( Boda, 1959) as O. doderleini (see O. rumana for discussion). The short and slightly gradate spire, however, separates O. doderleini clearly from O. rumana , O. curta and O mandici nov. sp.
Overall, O. doderleini is a rare species, known so far only from the middle Sarmatian. An ancestor might be represented by the Badenian O. szokolyensis ( Strausz, 1960) [see discussion for Olegia szokolyensis ( Strausz, 1960) ].
Paleoenvironment. The mollusc assemblages of Nexing and Wiesen suggest costal inner neritic to intertidal environments (Harzhauser & Piller 2010)).
Distribution in Central Paratethys. Sarmatian (middle Miocene): Vienna Basin: Nexing (own data), Eisenstadt-Sopron Basin: Wiesen ( Austria) ( Papp 1974); Pannonian Basin: Budapest, Várpalota, Péccsváradról ( Hungary) ( Boda 1959); Borod Basin: Vârciorog ( Romania) ( Filipescu et al. 2014).
