Kanakythyris pachyrhynchos Laurin, 1997 View in CoL

( Fig. 6 View FIGURE 6. A – D G–J)

This is the first record of this species from the Norfolk Ridge. It is characterized by the strongly thickened posterior part of the shell and curved beak with a very small foramen. The species is a member of the same family and subfamily as S. crosnieri . It was found on only two seamounts ― Munida and Kaimon Maru ( Tables 1, 2) with a depth range of 295–410 m ( Fig. 14 View FIGURE 14 ). Kanakythyris pachyrhynchos was originally described by Laurin (1997) from the Loyalty Islands and New Caledonia. It is not yet known from any other region and can be regarded as endemic to New Caledonia and adjacent waters.
