This rhynchonellide, closely related to Cryptopora , was represented by only three specimens from a single sample on Crypthelia seamount at 200– 291 m. The genus Aulites , originally monospecific, was previously known only from off the east, south and west coasts of Australia ( Dall 1920; Richardson 1987). The present finding extends the geographical range of the genus about 1,500 km to the west.
