This is a cosmopolitan brachiopod (see Logan 2007), noted also from the vicinity of New Caledonia ( Laurin 1997) and now from the Norfolk Ridge. Laurin (1997) also reported P. davidsoni (Deslongchamps, 1855) from the Norfolk Ridge. These two species are very similar externally but can be readily distinguished by their internal structures ( Logan 1979; Logan et al. 2008); descending branches present in P. anomioides are absent in P. davidsoni . However, Laurin (1997) did not describe the internal structures of the specimens investigated by him, thus it is difficult to know which Platidia species was present. In the studied material, P. anomioides was found in a single sample on Zorro seamount at 609 m.
