Holotype:— JAMAICA. Ur. Med. rådet Westrings lavsamling gn Lagman Erigelblom. 1853. P.O. Swartz (GB-0128253).
Description: Cunha (2007).
Notes: Leptogium diaphanum has smooth surface, translucent thallus with simple to branched, flattened and elongated lobules on the thallus and apothecia. Thallus thickness is 30–45 μ m, resulting in the translucent appearance.
Leptogium austroamericanum , L. cyanescens and L. cyanizum are isidiate species whereas L. diaphanum has flattened lobules on the lamina.
Distribution in Brazil: First record to Mato Grosso do Sul, but previously mentioned to Rio Grande do Sul ( Käffer et al. 2015) and São Paulo ( Cunha 2007).
