Leptogium marginellum (Sw.) Gray (1821: 401) . ( Figure 3A )

Syntypes:— JAMAICA. Swartz s/n (H-ACH 1917!, S-L1620, UPS-L-133829).

Descriptions: Kitaura (2012) and Sierk (1964).

Notes: The thallus of Leptogium marginellum has irregular ridges, apothecia restricted to the apical and lateral margins of the lobes, and lobules on the margin and lateral of the apothecia.

Two possible syntypes of Collema marginellum , made by O. Swartz, from Jamaica, were not examined ; therefore a lectotype is not selected here.

Usually, the apothecia of L. marginellum are immature and the ascospores are not found.

Distribution in Brazil: Alagoas ( Pereira et al. 2006), Mato Grosso ( Brako et al. 1985), Mato Grosso do Sul, in Ponta Porã ( Osorio 1992); Minas Gerais ( Aptroot 2002), Pará ( Brako et al. 1985), Paraná ( Osorio 1977), Rio de Janeiro (Vainio 1980), Santa Catarina ( Gumboski & Eliasaro 2011), São Paulo ( Marcelli 1992, Cunha 2007) and Rio Grande do Sul ( Spielmann 2006).
