Description. Body ( Figs. 1, 5 View FIGURE 1 – 8 ) dark brownish-black, legs, antennae and maxillary palpi lighter, brown to reddishbrown, body length 10.5 – 12.5 mm. Head large and robust, ratio HL/HW = 1.05. Labrum projecting anteriad, with 5–6 setae on anterior margin which is almost straight. Clypeus with one lateral seta on each side. Mandibles large, wide, as long as 2/3 of length of head (excl. mandibles). Eyes completely absent. Paraorbital sulci well-defined, with two supraorbital setae, first seta located above middle, second seta above end of supraorbital striae. Pronotum slightly wider than long, ratio: PL/PW = 0.86, widest in anterior fifth of length, evenly tapered posteriad, anterior margin almost straight, with dense, gold fringe of setae on margin and with one long anterolateral seta on each side located in anterior fifth of pronotum length, posterior margin clearly concave, with two shallow basal impression reaching third of pronotal length, disc of pronotum with shallow, but well-defined median line, anterior angles sharp, strongly projecting anteriad, posterior angles sharp, posterolateral setae wanting. Elytra subparallel, slightly expanded posteriad, widest in middle, humeri evenly rounded, ratio EL/EW = 1.90, with subconvex interstriae, third interstria with three dorsal and one preapical pore, interstria 5 with 4–5 pores. Elytral margin bearing a series of umbilicate pores, pores denser in preapical and apical part, asymmetrically situated, distances vary between left and right elytron. Left elytron with 5 (6) humeral, 2 (3) medial and 8 subapical pores, right elytron with 6 (7) humeral, 3 medial and 7 (8) subapical pores. Scutellum welldefined, subtriangular, moderately vaulted, parascutellar striae missing. Legs long, lacking any modification. Aedeagus ( Fig. 5 View FIGURE 1 – 8 ) with median lobe in lateral view strongly curved with apical lobe slender and sharp, right paramere long, slender and obtuse at apex.

Sexual dimorphism. Female unknown.

Differential diagnosis. Speluncarius biokovensis differs from all other Dinaric species of the genus by characters given in key below.

Etymology. Locotypic, named after Biokovo Mountains, central Dalmatia, Croatia.

Distribution. So far known only from two close (distance about 500 m) caves, Jujnovića špilja and špilja Spila 2 in the south-eastern part of Biokovo.
