Ovary obovate, 0.5–0.7 × 0.2–0.3 cm, brown, about 30 ovules per locule. Capsule and seeds not seem. Chromosome number 2n = 22.

Distribution and ecology: —Isolated populations of Hippeastrum roseoalbum occur at the Serra da Canastra National Park, near the Sacramento entrance; in Delfinópolis’s "campo rupestre", near populations of H. diniz-cruzie . Most plants flower in November.

Etymology: —The epithet “ roseoalbum ” is Latin to “white-rose” in reference to the color of the perigone, which differentiates it from H. cipoanum .

Additional specimens examined (paratypes): — BRAZIL. Minas Gerais: Delfinópolis, Fazenda José Antunes, trilha “ Escada de Pedras ”. 20 o 26’04”S, 46 o 38’72W, campo rupestre, 11 October 2002, R . Camargo 125 ( UEC!) .

Taxonomic remarks: — Hippeastrum roseoalbum is similar to H. cipoanum , differing by the tepal colors and by the leaf shape. The tepals of H. roseoalbum in free portion are white, often tinged with rose, internally with a cream colored strip, and the leaves are half-terete; in H. cipoanum the tepals are nasturtium red to entirely dark pink and the leaves are flat.

Distribution and ecology: —Extensive populations of Hippeastrum sanfranciscanum are only known in the Serra da Canastra National Park, near the headwaters of the São Francisco River, in sandy-rocky fields of “campo rupestre”, among grasses and other herbs. Most plants with flowers in October/November.

Etymology:—The epithet “sanfrasciscanum” refers to the important Brazilian São Francisco River, which rises at Serra da Canastra.

Additional specimens examined (paratypes): — BRAZIL. Camargo 126 ( UEC!); estrada para cachoeira Casca D’Anta, parte de cima, 26 September 2002, R. A . Pacheco et al. 209 ( HUFU!) .

Taxonomic remarks: — Hippeastrum sanfranciscanum is similar to H. cipoanum , differing by its much longer hypanthium tube and half-terete leaves. Hippeastrum cipoanum presents flat leaves.

Hippeastrum kromerii ( Worsley 1939: 117) Meerow (1997: 17) was described from bulbs cultivated in England that were collected from “banks of upper river San Francisco, Minas Gerais”. The locality seems to refer to Serra da Canastra, but H. kromerii has no type designated, and some remarks suggest it is Hippeastrum glaucescens (Mart. ex Schultes & Schultes 1830: 813) Herbert (1837: 139) View in CoL ( Fig. 3P View FIGURE 3 ), which occurs in the area.
