Inner vertical seta long, 0.73–0.75 of eye height; outer vertical seta hair-like or indistinguishable from postocular setae; ocellar seta fine, 0.45–0.50 times as long as inner vertical seta and with several fine black hairs on ocellar triangle; 2 postocellar setae, 0.43–0.45 times as long as inner vertical seta; 2 post vertical setae, 0.35–0.40 times as long as inner vertical seta; 8 long frontal setae, lowest seta nearly level with basal of pedicel; fronto-orbital plate with only several fine black hairs among row of frontal setae; vibrissa inserted above level of lower margin of face; facial ridge with 2–3 setae and several fine short hairs at most on lower 1/5; 4–5 rather long subvibrissal setae. Antenna falling short of lower margin of face by about 1.4 times of pedicel length; pedicel bearing black hairs and a long seta, the latter 0.9–1.0 times as long as pedicel; 1st flagellomere 1.7–1.9 times as long pedicel; arista with micro-pubescence, 3rd aristomere thickened on basal 2/7.

Thorax black in ground color, with dense golden yellow pruinosity; dorsum with 4 narrow longitudinal vittae, outer vittae about twice as wide as inner vittae and about 0.25 times as wide as pruinose portion between inner and outer vittae; pleura with dense pale yellowish white or grayish white pruinosity. All thoracic hairs black, fine short and suberect; anatergite bare; 2 presutural and 3 postsutural acrostichal setae; 3 presutural and 3 postsutural dorsocentral setae, scutellum with 4 pairs of marginal setae and 1 pair of rather fine long discal setae, the latter about as long as scutellum, basal, lateral and subapical setae subequal in length and 1.6–1.7 times as long as scutellum, apical seta about 1.4 times as long as scutellum, sometimes 1 rather fine long hair inserted before basal seta.

Wing hyaline, evenly and weakly tinged with pale yellow on basal and anterior margins; basicosta reddish brown to black; lower calypter pale yellowish on middle and yellowish on margin. Costa between subcosta and vein R1 about 0.4 times as long as that between R1 and R2+3; bend of vein M nearly right angled, vein M from dm-cu crossvein to its bend 2.0–2.1 times as long as distance between the bend and wing margin extending along vein M.

Legs black, pulvilli yellowish brown; legs hairs black; fore tibia with 4 fine anterodorsal and 2 strong posterior setae; mid tibia with 2 anterodorsal, 2 posterodorsal and 1 ventral setae; hind tibia with 2–4 strong submedian anterodorsal setae among them, if 4 setae present then upper and the 3rd setae fine, 2–4 posterodorsal setae, if 4 setae present then upper and the 3rd setae fine, and 2–4 strong anteroventral setae, if 4 setae present then upper 2 setae fine, and with 2 preapical dorsal setae.

Abdomen broad ovate, black in ground color, entirely covered with dense golden yellow pruinosity, irregular spots appearing with direction of light on dorsum of syntergite 1+2 to 5th tergite. Hairs on dorsum black, fine long and suberect; syntergite 1+2 excavated half way to posterior margin, with 2 strong median marginal and 1–2 lateral marginal setae; 3rd tergite with 2 strong median discal and a row of 8 marginal setae; 4th tergite with 2 strong median discal and a row of 12 strong marginal setae; 5th tergite with a row of median discal and marginal setae.

Male terminalia. Fifth sternite ( Fig. 23 View FIGURES 21 – 24 ) broadly V-shaped in ventral view, broadly excavated posteromedially, without membranous area anterior to the excavation, with fine and long hairs on posterior lobe; cerci ( Fig. 21 View FIGURES 21 – 24 ) in dorsal view narrowly separated as V-form on apical 2/3, lateral margin nearly straight, with dense long and strong hairs, apex pointed, in lateral view dorsal margin arced and ventral margin excavated near middle, dorsal area with dense fine long hairs; surstylus ( Fig. 22 View FIGURES 21 – 24 ) long, rounded apically, in lateral view dorsal margin nearly straight and ventral margin strongly bulged, basal 1/3 strongly inwardly concave, apex with dense and short hairs; bacilliform sclerite short; pregonite nearly straight from base to apex; postgonite overlapping pregonite on basal 1/3; distiphallus elongate, distal area expanded laterally; ejaculatory apodeme long, nearly fan-shaped ( Fig. 24 View FIGURES 21 – 24 ).

Holotype male, Maolan, Libo, 850–1080 m, Guizhou, China, 20–21.v.2011, C.T. Zhang (SYNU).

Paratype. CHINA: 1 female, Dongshanpo Forestry Centre, Jingyuan, 2200–2300 m, Ningxia, 28.vi.2008, J.Y. Liu (SYNU).

Etymology. Specific name is taken from the black hairs on thoracic and abdominal dorsum of this species.

Remarks. Parerigone atrisetosa is one of five species in the genus with 4 pairs of scutellar marginal setae and 1 ventral seta on mid tibia in male, the other species being P. aurea , P. brachyfurca , P. eristaloides and P. tianmushana . Within this group of five species, P. atrisetosa and P. aurea are the only two with mostly dense yellowish or golden yellow pruinosity on the body and pedicel of antenna bearing black hairs. Parerigone atrisetosa differs from P. au re a in having black thoracic hairs, legs and abdomen with black hairs.
